OUR STORY

Established in 1984 from humble beginnings, Whānau Family Support Services Trust traces back to Wainuiomata when founder Serenah Nicholson working with like-minded parents, began drawing up letters for individuals to access grants and support whānau liaising with government agencies.

Over the years, we have benefited from several affiliations and partnerships with national organisations and local agencies, growing our capability and capacity to do more on behalf of the whānau in our hāpori.

Sadly, on 12th December 2022, our founder and general manager, Serenah Nicholson, passed away following a short battle with cancer. Serenah was a huge advocate for supporting whānau and worked tirelessly in the community. Those of us she has left behind continue the mahi she began with her love, drive, passion and unwavering dedication for people.

Our vision is to provide an indigenous-based, people-centred approach to wellbeing and core life skills development focused on whānau as the decision makers who determine their goals and aspirations.
